Smoking Among Teenagers

Today, no matter where you go, you can see teenagers happily puffing away on cigarettes. It is not only the boys who are smoking but the girls too and some of them are my friends. It may seem like a cool and sophisticated thing to be seen smoking but sad and hardly to say, that image is only temporary.

There are many reasons why teenagers smoke. The number one reason is peer pressure. Teenagers face a lot of problems while growing up. By smoking, they will be accepted into the peer group. If they don't, then they will be ignored. Another reason may be because of too many personal problems in their life. Sitting for exams, stress at home and college are just some of the daily problems that teenagers have to face. When I ask my friend if this is the reason, and they say yes because of many problem that they having such as having a problem with their family or their love partner. One easy way to forget their problems would be to hang out and have a smoke with friends who might be share the same problems.

Besides that, they are also think that cigarettes is like a food. Without it, they will be not focusing about what they want to do. One of the example is when fasting month, they are mostly can't stand their urge to smoke. To solve this problem, they will not fasting and smoking freely in front of other people.

The effects of smoking are many. One of the most dangerous effects is on one's health. Cancer is one of disease that someone can get from smoking. It also can cause death to someone who are really addicted to the smoking. Smoke that is inhale while smoking can cause harm to the cells in the body. I keep asking myself, why should one suffer and die a painful death? It is definitely not worth it.

Another effect of smoking on health is that it can cause addiction to harmful substances which are more stronger than cigarettes. When someone gets addicted to smoking, he or she will find ways to get greater satisfaction which could lead to harmful drugs. Hence, it is better for teenagers to stop smoking. There are many benefits of quitting smoking. The moment a smoker quit smoking, blood pressure decreases, and risk getting stroke is also reduced when a person stops smoking.

In conclusion, teenagers should never start smoking so that they can lead to a healthy life and will not having so much more problems.
